SETI Collect Funds to Find Alien

SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) suffered a serious blow in April this year when their main search engines ie aliens Allen Telescope Array (ATA), a network of telescopes in northern California are frozen due to lack of operational funds.

But now, those who are eager to know whether there are other civilizations beyond the planet Earth can help make the project could be resumed. Through an effort called SETIstars crowdsourcing, you can make the ATA back is turned.

Similar to other fundraising efforts, SETIstars an effort to raise funds in order to accumulate a sufficient budget for operational costs at least for one year. The target, they want to raise funds amounting to U.S. $ 200 thousand.

When the news was revealed, SETI has lived less than a week (6 days) before the deadline. While the funds collected only reached U.S. $ 102,988.

Although the ATA is not the only radio telescope that can be used for SETI searches, but the observatory's most important to perform that task. The budget crisis occurred when the U.S. government and the National Science Foundation - the government agency that supports fundamental research and education in all non-medical fields of science and engineering - to cut their contributions significantly.

"We opened a simple site with a clear mandate: to raise funds from the community to help reactivate the ATA," said SETIstars, as quoted from their site, July 25, 2011. "But this is only the prefix. Reactivate ATA is the most important first step, "said SETIstars.
